Gold nugget discovered by Arthur Stewart

Image
The Bealiba gold nugget was found near the town of Bealiba (70 kms west of Bendigo, Victoria) on 26 June 1957 by Arthur Stewart, the owner of a small nearby grazing property. Mr Stewart had stopped at the side of the road to repair the chain on his bicycle, which he was riding because his car had earlier broken down. His bad luck ended, however, when he noticed gold glinting from a clod of earth alongside the road. He dug the 22-ounce nugget out with his hands, then washed it in a nearby stream to confirm he had discovered gold. Gold nugget discovered by Arthur Stewart near Bealiba, Victoria, June 1957 The next day Mr Stewart formed a syndicate with mail contactor Gordon McDowell and a farmer and his son both named Tom Wright. They called their syndicate ‘Stewart’s Surprise’, took out miner’s rights and pegged a claim around the spot where the nugget was found. The discovery caused a minor gold rush with people arriving from surrounding areas eager to find m

In their backyard, this California couple discovered $10 million in gold coins.

Image
A California couple who found a $10 million trove of buried gold coins may not have been that lucky after all. The coins were likely stolen from the US Mint in 1900, according to a published source, and are thus government property. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, news of the crime was revealed through a search of the Haiti Trust Digital Library conducted by Northern California fishing guide Jack Trout, a historian and rare coin collector. The anonymous California couple noticed the edge of an old can on a path they had hiked many times before. Poking about in the container was the first step in discovering a $10 million hidden trove of rare coins. “It was like finding a hot potato,” the couple told Don Kagin of Kagin’s, Inc., a coin dealer. The couple hired the president of Kagin’s, Inc. and Holabird-Kagin Americana, a western Americana dealer and auctioneer, to represent them. The coins are mostly uncirculated and in mint condition, and have

DualSense Edge Breakdown Reveals Smaller Battery Than Normal DualSense

PlayStation's DualSense Edge launched this week. The newest controller for the PS5 boasting more features than the regular DualSense that comes with the console. As reviews and teardowns of the Edge start to pour in, it has already been revealed the pricey controller has a smaller battery than a run-of-the-mill DualSense. It had already been confirmed by PlayStation that its new controller would have a shorter battery life, those additional features being blamed for that. However, a look inside the new controller courtesy of Budd's Controllers (thanks, VGC) has revealed something PlayStation did not. That the physical size of the battery powering the Edge is significantly smaller than the one found in a DualSense. Brandon Ingram injury update: Pelicans star to return Wednesday vs. Wolves after missing two months

Two months after injuring his big toe, New Orleans Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram is expected to return to the lineup on Wednesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to The Athletic.  "I didn't think it would take this long," Ingram said after practice Tuesday. "But I had to listen to my body before I got back on the floor with my teammates and before I got back to playing basketball." Ingram added: "I feel like I'm a fresher body than everybody else. Everybody beat up. I've just had a chance to let my body rest for a little bit and come back off of injury." In late December , Ingram said that he would be back on the floor when he feels like himself again. On Tuesday, he said he is "still fighting through some things, but it's tolerable right now and I'm able to do some things effectively," adding that

Lakers trade: How Rui Hachimura can get the most out of his game alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis

Image
The Los Angeles Lakers traded for Wizards forward Rui Hachimura on Monday and our Sam Quinn gave the move an A-  for L.A., if only because the Lakers didn't give up either of their coveted first-round picks to get him.  Chances are, unless you're a Wizards fan, you're more familiar with Hachimura's name than his Game . Generally speaking, he has the 6-foot-8 and sturdy size that everyone wants in a defensive wing these days, and he can shoot. The former will help the Lakers as it would help anyone, specifically as it will take some of that defensive burden off LeBron James to cover for what is an incredibly small team.  But it's the latter point that will determine how much of an impact he really makes for the Lakers, who are a bad shooting team that would greatly benefit from Hachimura catching a couple-month hot streak as they try to sneak into the playoffs.  There's hope on this front. Persona 3 And 4 Translators Have Been Left Out Of The Credits

Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden have finally come to modern consoles, but it's not a moment to celebrate for everyone. If you go to view the credits sequences of both titles, you'll find that translators for both have not been included, sparking outrage from a number of people online. Included among these people is Katrina Leonoudakis, former localization coordinator for Persona publisher Sega. Leonoudakis has claimed that she urged the team that took over for her after she left Sega to ensure the FIGS (French, Italian, German, Spanish) teams were credited for their work on the titles. Unfortunately, it seems her pleas were ignored, as FIGS translators don't seem to be included in either Game 's final credits. Fist-Sized California Gold Nugget On Sale

Image
The fist-sized lump of precious metal weighs more than 6lb (2.8kg) and is expected to carry a price tag of $350,000 (£220,000). The chunk is known as the Butte Nugget, after the Northern California county where a gold hunter says it was found in July. The owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, said it was mined on public land in a mountain range. But he asked dealer Don Kagin to keep his name and the exact location of the discovery secret. David McCarthy, a rare minerals expert, told the San Francisco Chronicle he was escorted blindfolded to the site to check it was genuine. Mr Kagin said he had taken pains to establish the veracity of this find after he was hoodwinked in 2011 when another nugget purportedly unearthed in Sierra Nevada, California, turned out to have come from Australia. That seller was trying to inflate the price of his land where he falsely claimed the 8.2lb chunk, which sold for nearly half a million dollars, had been discovered. The Butte

Terrifying Moment Shark Swims Past Scuba Diver And Bares Its Teeth

Matt Prior was diving at South West Rock, on the mid north coast of New South Wales, when a Grey Nurse Shark began to glide past him, the MailOnline reports. He captured the heart-stopping moment when the toothy predator swam towards the diver. The shark bared its razor sharp teeth at Mr Prior, but the terrifying creature keeps swimming on in another direction. Grey Nurse Sharks, which are considered to be an endangered species, are found most commonly in the east and west coasts of Australia. They are not usually considered to be a threat to swimmers.
